London Birth Photographer | Is Birth Photography in danger of becoming a trend?
I read an interesting blog by @kpphotoinc yesterday evening & it got me thinking... is birth photography really in danger of becoming a trend? Just another generalised genre that any old photographer feels they can just add to their services.... i dont know expand their offerings or spice up their porfolio a bit... maybe even go viral with a "shock factor" crowning photo.
BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST.
It is not an opportunity to fuel others voyeurism or satisfy their curiosity or get yourself more likes or followers or a photographic achievement to tick off your bucket list. ✔
BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT FOR EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER & NOT EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER CAN OR SHOULD BE A BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER.
If you feel called to offer birth photography you must at the minimum posess the qualities of a doula. You must posess a decent understanding of the physiology & emotional process of birth. You must honour all births & be of the opinion that every birth is a sacred event. You must posess self awareness & must fully understand that the energy you bring into anothers birth space has the power to effect their birth & their birth experience.
THERE IS NO HALF ASSING THIS!
You are dealing with families & mothers at one of their most vulnerable & intimate times. You must know this on a visceral level, at your core.
