Motherhood during COVID 19 Lockdown in the UK

As a family, we can shift to new rhythms..

and a new pace

What do you feel your lockdown experience has taught you?

That, as a family, we can shift to new rhythms and a new pace. Change can happen more quickly and easily than I sometimes think.

That having no time pressures, nowhere to be and lots of time in nature suits me so well. That whole days at home are doable.

Also, how to make really good slime. And that the key to managing to brush my kids' hair daily is having no other plans.

What have you found most challenging as a parent?

Not being able to let my toddler loose round a soft play on those days when being at home with a toddler is hard going.

Allowing myself to surrender to an entirely unschooling approach (we already home educated before lockdown but with a small semblance of structure), accepting that this is a season in our lives where going with the flow of each day is more than enough.

This is a season..

in our lives where going with the flow of each day is more than enough.

Do you plan to make any changes in your life as a result of your experience during lockdown?

I plan to keep at least 3 days a week entirely free from plans and scheduled activities. Fewer classes for my eldest (8). More time just milling around at home together and on nature walks as a family.

I'd love to continue meeting friends and family outside, for walks, not always needing to be in cafes, bars and restaurants with all their distractions.
